In ancient Greece kraters were placed in the center of the room and a wine-water mixture was withdrawn from it with other vessels. The Word Calyx meant that it resembled the calyx of a flower.

A kylix was a type of cup for wine drinking celebrations. The shape of the kylix enabled drinking while almost lying down.

An amphora was used for the transportation and storage of perishable goods and sometimes to store the ashes of the dead. Those with a ring base tended to be used for domestic or votive purposes. They were invented by the Greeks but later adopted by the Romans.

The lekythos was used to pour ritual oils or perfumes as an offering. These vessels were popular in the 5th century B.C., however some have been found dating back to 700 B.C.
